Track number:

Life’s Cricket Match by Greta Steggles, read by Pat Baxter
Cricket is the traditional summer sport in England and our final item is an archive recording which we are broadcasting again as a tribute to Talking News supporter Pat Baxter. She reads a prize-winning article written by one of our blind listeners, Greta Steggles, in the Age Concern literary competition in 2005. Greta called it Life’s Cricket Match and it was based on her love of cricket andher knowledge of the game.  At the end of the story, you will have heard Greta say she is 91 and hoped to make nine more runs to reach her century. She just missed out- her wicket was finally taken in 2012 at the age of 98 – just two runs short.
